Duly focusing on the cut cost approach of

Homeopathy in saving the animals

In the given context, Dr. P Vahini and Dr. N Anjana MVSc. students from Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh have discussed how homeopathy has extended its wonders to animals and its importance in the veterinary field in support of the farmers

The direct and indirect effects of animal health on human health, disease control, zoonosis, food security and national economy are immense and in a developing country like India, it is huge. Pandemics like COVID-19 and untimely disasters like floods augment this affect to another level thus supported by lack of basic resources, transportation facilities and veterinary aid.

Due to a combined effect of new emerging diseases and increased cost of basic resources, people are restricting themselves to animal rearing thus resulting in increased prices of animals and animal products. Constraint of land and water resources has led to decreased fodder production, thus affecting animal nutrition. Lack of proper subsidies by government for medical aid is also probing people to invest more on treatment out of pocket. With the increasing gravity of these issues with every passing day, homeopathy is definitely an elucidation especially in treating the animals.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine founded by Dr. Christian Fredrich Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a German physician. He had introduced homeopathy both into human and veterinary fields. It is based on the principle that “like cures like”. In practice, this means that a medicine capable of producing certain effects when taken by a healthy living being is capable of curing any kind of illness that displays similar effects.

Introduction of homeopathy

Present status and principles of homeopathy: principles of homeopathy applies similarly in humans and animals as well.

A review on homeopathy

Not just allopathy : now parents prefer homeopathy, ayurveda and acupuncture to heal their pets.

Lack of helpful aid, economical backwardness, rough handling, improper transportation and many other lacunae in the current system paved way for progression of homeopathy into veterinary field.

Focusing on BENIFICIAL ASPECTS of homeopathic treatment

  • Safety : this therapy never clash with other line of treatment or drugs.

  • Effectiveness : highly effective in animals as they are unaddicted to alcohol or cigarettes unlike humans.

  • Economical

  • Longevity : no special storage facilities are required.

  • Long shelf life

  • Easy to administer: small doses of drug in the form of globules or drops.

  • Self-treatment: can be easily understood by laymen.

  • Permanent solution

  • Effective in acute and chronic diseases too.

  • Can be used parallelly with allopathy.

  • Very effective in animals with antibiotic resistance.

  • No residues in animals and animal products.

Many aware and alert individuals are now choosing homeopathy for treating their animals and pets. It has become an important sector and veterinarians across the world are successfully treating the animals with veterinary homeopathy.

We would be glad to know the journey of a pioneer hompath veterinarian Dr. R K Goel, the one with vision, experience and commitment. He came up with different formulations for diseases like mastitis, FMD, HS, meningitis etc. on his own with high success rate while working as a veterinarian for 33 long years. Though he fascinated veterinary over homeopathy during his early years of professional study he didn’t leave that back in practice. His dedication prospered in the name of “GOEL VET PHARMA PRIVATE LIMITED” which is the first and foremost trustworthy leading homeopathy veterinary medicine company since 1977. Their 43 years of legacy made them pioneers in the arena of veterinary homeopathy all over India and the world. The company is well established at Chittorgarh, Rajasthan with thousands of veterinarians backing their products.

The other shareable experiences are of Dantu Satyanarayana with 37 years’ service in veterinary field from Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh. Unsatisfied with the results of allopathy in his service, he has focused on the alternative medicine, which made him a successful vet homeopath. With the apprenticeship under the guidance of Dr. EkkiralaAnanth Krishna garu for 3 years, he has focused mainly on the development of dairy farms. He has been publishing homeopathic veterinary books on bovines, ovine, poultry, dogs, emu in the local language (Telugu).

Another inspiring initiation of Dr. Racha Rambabu, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon is that he is approaching people of entire Andhra state through TELEGRAM and FACEBOOK groups thus popularizing the pros of homeopathy over any other alternative lines of treatment. There are many other stories which just conclude one point that with knowledge, patience and guidance homeopathy proves what others have failed.

Many studies reveal that homeopathy succeeded in helping out a patient to come out of shock due to surgery, minimizing post-operative complications, boosting immune system, speeding up recovery and even stabilizing the emotional state after the surgery.

Now-a-days there has been a revolution in the social media to teach others what we know through online platforms. Such one example is from Dr. N. Nagaraju, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Hassan veterinary college, Karnataka, who conducted webinars on homeopathic treatment in animals. He shared his experiences of practicing homeopathy clinically in combination with allopathy for the past 15 years with a great success rate.

There exist many proven stories from field veterinarians and farmers themselves that homeopathy had a great role in combating diseases or conditions related to pregnancy, infertility, liver, digestive system, respiratory system, mastitis apart from microbial and parasitic diseases. These relate to both large ruminants like cattle and buffalo, small ruminants like sheep and goat and even pets like cats and dogs.

Veterinary homeopathy can be truly considered as a boon in this conventional era of allopathy with unavoidable hazardous side effects like drug resistance, bioamplification, drug intolerance, residues in animal by-products etc. Homeopathy has got worldwide recognition among many professionals related to veterinary, biotechnology, pharmacology, fisheries etc.

Most veterinarians choose homeopathy over allopathy due to the chronic and recurring nature of ailments in animals. The basic idea behind using homeopathy is to strengthen the immunity of the animals and remove the cause of disease from grass-root levels. Animal diseases that respond with an immediate effect to homeopathy are skin allergies, ear infections, asthma, epilepsy and acute conditions like traumatic injuries, infections and poisonings as well.

Considering this growing importance of homeopathy and its wide applications, hompaths has come up with an exclusive creation of new apps. These apps are designed to help find the perfect homeopathic medicine for animals based on the totality of symptoms. These even provide us with immense knowledge and wide range of information about how to handle veterinary cases from its exhaustive library.

Apart from these, there are even more remedies used in various conditions and they can be dispensed in the same way as in humans.

It is the need of the hour to aware people about the pros and cons of this type of treatment advancements in medicine. Some constraints in the path are :

  • Lack of information: poor awareness among veterinary doctors and farmers about this line of treatment.

  • Spread of myths: common myths around

  • takes long time for cure

  • recurrence of illness

  • symptoms become intense during early treatment

These myths can be overtaken by successful clinical trials of veterinary doctors.

Farmers need to be educated regarding WORD OF CAUTION.

  • Ease of approach: the delay or absence of veterinarian in situations like emergencies can be overcome by farmers themselves as they can self-treat the animal under proper guidance through proper channel.

  • Effectiveness: because of no unwanted addictions.

India being an agro-economy, the sustenance of farmers solely on crops is very much doubtful and thus animal husbandry sector always forms a backbone in supporting them both culturally and economically. The professionals bridging the gap between farmers and healthy animals are the veterinarians themselves. Hence it is the role of highly aware, well informed and educated vets to know the potential of this amazing system of treatment and practice the same. Homeopathy should be treated as a definite solution but not as an alternative in distress. This can be achieved only when there is a multifaceted approach between different agencies and professionals like vets, pharmaceutical companies, extension agents, para-veterinarians, homeopathy graduates etc., whose sole motto should be helping the farmers and promoting animal welfare.
